NBC-WSJ Poll shows new lows for Hillary

A new NBC-WSJ Poll shows Barack Obama bouncing back a bit from his pastor problem, moving back to a dead heat nationally - and Hillary Clinton's positives have never been lower. From NBC's Chuck Todd:

As expected, one of the two major Democratic candidates saw a downturn in the latest NBC/WSJ poll, but it's not the candidate that you think. Hillary Clinton is sporting the lowest personal ratings of the campaign. Moreover, her 37 percent positive rating is the lowest the NBC/WSJ poll has recorded since March 2001, two months after she was elected to the U.S. Senate from New York.

Read the full report at the link above. The poll also shows Obama more competitive with independent voters than Hillary, although both Democrats are in a dead heat nationally against McCain. 20% of the supporters of each candidate say they would vote for McCain if their favorite loses.

Democrats are exhausted by ... (Below threshold)

Democrats are exhausted by this campaign and they are sick and tired of all the negative crap coming from Hillary's camp (like the sliming of Bill Richardson).

I've got an idea: why don't both candidates run against John McCain for the next two months? After all, if the superdelegates should base their whole decision on who will be the better general election candidate, what better way to find out than to have them both go after McCain and see who's better at it?

Your idea is a good one, especially for Obama. As the one trailing, Hillary needs to cut him down some to narrow the difference, which would be very difficult to accomplish by only attacking McCain. But it would be a difficult challenge to refuse if offered publicly.

The political equivalent of street-fighting is what the Clintons do best. Behind, they have no choice but to go to their strong suit. Their reputation is what kept the super delegates from jumping on the Obama bandwagon right after Super Tuesday.

Machiavelli, I believe, said, "It is better to be feared than to be loved."
