Who can forget just a few days ago, our resident blogger who is afflicted with a serious case of Obama Derangement Syndrome gleefully proclaiming "Barack Obama's popularity is plummeting"? Sean Hannaty (another Clinton supporter) also pronounced that Barack Obama was in "free-fall".
Well guess what folks? Obama has stemmed the erosion and turned the race around according to Gallup:
It shouldn't be a surprise that at the height of the controversy swirling around Jeremiah Wright Obama's polling numbers would suffer a bit. The damage was real but it appears to have had little lasting effect on his candidacy. Obama's speech successfully quelled the uproar and Bill Richardson's endorsement allowed him to change the subject. Even Fox News seems to have run out of new ways to spin the Wright controversy to keep it alive.
The Gallup poll also refutes the idea that Hillary has a better chance of defeating McCain in the general election:
McCain: 46%
Obama: 44%
McCain: 47%
Clinton: 45%
(The margin of error is 3% which means these are essentially tied.)

You only get to call it Obama Derangement Syndrome when someone on our side finally blames him for a natural disaster, terrorist attack, international incident, or the general state of the world. Elaborate conspiracy theories and a general attribution of omnipotence also count.

I'm sure we will revisit the Wright controversy...His sermons were always open to public, thousands attended but I'm more interested in what the candidates say. But just for the record here is one of Hillary's pastors. Naturally as is her wont it is secretive society, the Family and actually more of a cult..Feel free to develp as post or save it as reference, Larkin for religious posts.
It would be interesting to hear Hillary respond on this what she is doing spending time with a secretive religious society and cells. Don't we have a right to know, if she is a candidate for the Presidency? Can you imagine if Obama said he was member of black secretive cult with cells..There would be hell to pay.

How is it that all these secret societies and "cells" are not so secret?
Very funny stuff, Steve.

Stepping back from this most recent week, one of the most interesting aspects of the affaire de Wright is that Republicans for a long time considered Hillary the more vulnerable candidate.
In just one week conventional thinking among Republicans has changed and Obama is seen as much more vulnerable. Obama has accomplished something that even Karl Rove could not: galvanize the Republican base. That's what you should be worried about.

The election markets keep Obama ahead, way ahead of Clinton. Even with Wright's sermons, Michelle's comments Obama didn't drop that much.

Baggi ~ If you visit the batsh*t-crazy far left sites, they'll fill you in on conspiracies in areas you never knew existed, or cared.
Back in mid-February, Obama had forged a 49-42 Gallup lead against Hillary among Dems and Dem-leaners. At the very least, the momentum he had built up is completely gone, and he will be playing defense from now until the convention. It was certainly incorrect to describe his decline as a "free fall" (or, as I did, "hemorrhaging"), even though it looked that way on a couple of daily tracking polls. As with zombies, the blank stares of his mindless cultists will not be easily diverted, even with the shiniest of objects.
Hillary has nearly five months to win some more primaries and keep trying to convince the super delegates that Obama is a risky choice (except, of course, among radical Marxist blacks who hate whites, Jews, and America, where he's pretty solid). Obama will keep trying to woo them, too, of course, and keep whining that it's over and Hillary should quit.
She won't quit, naturally, because it isn't over. All she needs to do is get to a convention where Obama can't pull a majority on the first ballot. At that point, it becomes a political brawl, and the Clintons are brawlers from way back.

Jim Addison,
Here's the superdelegates' nightmare scenario:
Through the rest of the states, the pledged delegate lead remains aound 100+ in favor of Obama, but he continues to struggle to reach 30% of the white vote in every state.
Talk about losing sleep. The SDs don't dare take away the nomination from Obama, bt basically write off the general election.
Delicious!

The right's attack dogs were not turned on Obama until he began winning primaries and threatening Hillary's nomination. They are afraid of an Obama-McCain general election, because they can attack and destroy Hillary much easier without race-baiting. I'm wondering if they threw all the dirt they had at the wall, hoping some would stick, and now continuing their campaign aimed at personal destruction will only make them look worse and worse, exposing them as the fear-mongers they are.
If all else fails, expect to see some type of "terrorist" attack or at least an elevation to code red status sometime in late summer or early fall. Timing will be everything.

groucho, Obama obviously is very threatening to the far right, more so than Hillary. He represents whom the cultural war must be waged against (the Muslim, the Immigrant, the Terrorist, the Communist, the Liberal, the Welfare Queen) are all prominent centerpieces in their ugly worldview which could be termed "threatened tribalism."
