In a New York Times Op-ed, columnist Bill Kristol provided evidence that he suffers from Obama Derangement Syndrome like one of our writers over at Wizbang Blue. The symptoms of this syndrome include a pathological hatred of Barack Obama and a willingness to believe any and every lie about him that makes its way into the blogosphere.
Here's what Kristol said:
But Ronald Kessler, a journalist who has written about Wright's ministry, claims that Obama was in fact in the pews at Trinity last July 22. That's when Wright blamed the "arrogance" of the "United States of White America" for much of the world's suffering, especially the oppression of blacks.
And here is his abject apology after Obama's campaign vigously disputed the charge and provided video evidence that he was speaking to La Raza in Miami that day as reported by Fox News:
In this column, I cite a report that Sen. Obama had attended services at Trinity Church on July 22, 2007. The Obama campaign has provided information showing that Senator Obama did not attend Trinity that day. I regret the error.
All of us regret that, as a columnist for the New York Times, Bill Kristol didn't have the wherewithal to pick up the phone and check with the Obama campaign about whether this story was true.

Was Obama aware of Wright's statements at any time prior to his candidacy? Was Obama aware, prior to his candidacy, that Wright visited Muammar al-Gaddafi in Libya?
I don't care if Obama was sitting in a pew at the time Wright spilled his hate. It always returns to the old Watergate question posed by Howard Baker.....what did he know and when did he know it?

I don't know and I don't think it's particularly relevant. People can attend a church without agreeing with everything the pastor says or does. Mitt Romney attended the Mormon church at a time when it discriminated against blacks. He says he didn't agree with that policy and I take him at his world.

Kristol was very foolish in accepting the single source from NewsMax. And it's not like the NYT has done ANY fact-checking on their op-ed writers in recent years, their claims to the contrary notwithstanding.
And it's an irrelevant point. Whether or not Obama was present this Sunday or that when this or that was said isn't the question. It's not as if he were just a visitor, or even just a member. Obama has claimed Wright as a close friend, mentor, and adviser on things spiritual AND political for over 20 years. What chance is there you know someone closely for that long, take tapes of his sermons to Harvard with you, attend and financially support his church regularly, and do not know he is saying these things?
These were not aberrant outbursts, out of character with the prevailing philosophy, which seems close to "black liberation theology." The church sold these sermons on DVD, so they found nothing to be embarrassed about in their content.
If the close friend, mentor, and adviser of a leading Presidential candidate calls out, "G*d D*MN America!" and calls us "the U S of KKK-A" and believes the 9/11 attacks were just "the chickens coming home to roost," that's relevant. And it will be an issue. Perhaps not so much for the Democratic Obama supporter, or even Clinton supporter, but for the swing voters, it will be an issue.

Maggie, You've never heard of Mark Twain's "Nigger Jim", the Conscience of Huckleberry Finn?
That's the ironic sense I employed.
But you knew that. I hope.

"Puff, the Magic Negro" is on Rush's "bumper music" play list during lead-ins or -outs when Obama is the topic. The actual talent responsible is a contract agent. Thus El Rushbo can accept compliments or deflect criticisms concerning it since it is officially Contracted Out, Rush being a risk-averse pantload and all.
As for "bases-loaded home run!": that's my own appraisal.
Quibble here, quibble there, I'm a disowned Republican so I'm neutral unless Captain Walnuts is polling too close in November, in which case I'll throw in with the Magic Negro, if only to hasten a New Republican Party in around 2020. Around the time W is featured in Whatever Happened To...
