In the increasingly hard-fought race for the Democratic nomination, and the South Carolina primary in particular, we have our first flinch. Hillary Clinton's campaign has pulled a negative ad mischaracterizing Barack Obama's remarks about Ronald Reagan, reports Anne E. Kornblut for the Washington Post's political blog, The Trail:
Under fire for airing misleading attacks on Sen. Barack Obama, the Clinton campaign has pulled a radio ad that quoted the Illinois senator calling Republicans "the party of ideas" and suggesting he thought those ideas superior to Democratic ones. But the Obama campaign has already counter-punched, launching a new radio spot saying Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton will "say anything" to get elected.
Read the whole post at the above link. Obama is now running the sharper ads in the state. The Clintons are running a "thrust-and-parry" attack on him. His own ads will be turned against him as evidence he can't "bring us together" as promised. Hillary (or her surrogates) can say, "I took down my negative ads, but Mr. Hope is still running attack ads on me!" It's too late to change tomorrow's result, but could hurt in subsequent states.
Obama should still win South Carolina, but it is difficult to build momentum when your train keeps getting sidetracked.

"I took down my negative ads, but Mr. Hope is still running attack ads on me!"
This analysis is right on target. They wanted to divert Obama's campaign by getting down in the mud and they succeeded.
Obama responded (finally) because he had no choice. Failure to do would have pegged him as a wimp, not tough enough for the job. So now, he has to fight back and still get back on message. Difficult job.

Why Obama doesn't just mention Hillary's history with the Lippo Group or Charlie Trie and their relationship to the Peoples' Liberation Army, I'll never know.
(The modern slavery issue could have legs.)
I'll venture a guess. Wife Michelle is a board member of the Chicago Council On Foreign Relations and must abide by certain by-laws and expectations in order to maintain assurance of prospects for kith and kin.
So to risk leaving the script, Barack would face the wrath of a mad black woman who seems to be looking beyond (at best) a stolen election in return for further generations of Obama Family "public servants". The Big Picture.
Think of it this way: the presidency is only icing on the already-baked cake.
Why risk dropping the cake and having nothing?
"Have YOU ever run for preznit?"

Wasn't it you Jim who said the Clintons don't just play one handed touch football in political campaigns? I thought you were just being metaphorical but then I read this, by Dick Morris.
That picture of the seething, red-faced former president of the United States shaking his finger at members of the press who dare to question his wife's slimy campaign tactics, is all too familiar to those who have worked closely with him in the past.....
When he learned of his decline in the polls, he immediately blamed me, accusing me of spending too much time with other clients. Yelling and screaming, he escalated his charges, refusing to listen to me tell him that his latest ad had not been on television yet when the poll was completed. He kept ranting.
Finally, I had enough. I stood up and said I was leaving, quitting the campaign. I grabbed my coat and headed out of the mansion. As I crossed the foyer, I suddenly fell to the ground, tackled by Bill Clinton. I saw his large fist coming at me. Hillary was trying to get between us, yelling "Bill, Bill, stop it. Think about what you are doing. Bill, stop it!"
