Barack Obama has picked up endorsements from two Democratic Senators from key "Middle America" states, despite losing the New Hampshire Primary. Anna Jo Bratton and Sam Hananel report for Townhall.com:
Presidential hopeful Barack Obama has won the endorsement of two fellow Democratic senators from the heartland _ Ben Nelson, a popular moderate in largely Republican Nebraska and Claire McCaskill from Missouri, historically a bellwether in presidential contests.Nelson said Saturday he believes Obama has ability to bridge the partisan divide and to carry Democratic candidates across the country to victory in 2008. Nelson, pledging his support for his Illinois colleague, said Obama has "the greatest potential to ending the bitterness and poisonous atmosphere in Washington."
McCaskill plans to announce her support for the Illinois senator Sunday, according to an Obama aide and a McCaskill staffer who spoke Saturday on condition of anonymity so as not to upstage the announcement.
The full story is at the link above. Endorsements are generally of questionable value in terms of the number of votes they actually attract, but Nelson's moderate reputation and McCaskill's sex could help Obama with elements of the Democratic electorate which may tend to lean toward Hillary Clinton.

hmmm, I find it hard to whip up a comment to a Democrat post other than to say I hope Obama kicks Hillary's ass. I'm afraid too many Democrats are seeing a Hillary victory in the primaries as a bitch slap to the House of Bush though, which superficially it is, so her support is pretty deep. But I try to explain that they're two sides of the same coin. But Obama's not much different so...See? Dems are boring. Except for Kucinich's wife.
What got me to write though: kudos, Jim, for not impinging upon a proper use of the word "sex" by using the kidnapped grammatical term "gender" as a descriptor of McCaskill.
Even the evolving Encyclopedia Brittanica stretches its credibility comporting with "gender"'s politically correct use by gamely groping beyond the Victorian era for precedents.
There are none other than well known allusions symbolic of masculine-feminine characteristics and principles assigned to Things, animate and inanimate, which have been incorporated into language structures before history began.
Anyway, "gender" in place of "sex" is clunky and idiotic and should be abjured. And if some clod, upon reading "McCaskill's sex" in Jim's piece becomes hypnotized by thoughts of middle age va-jay-jay, well....he's probably a precocious little imp and should be watched.

"Nelson said Saturday he believes Obama has ability to bridge the partisan divide and to carry Democratic candidates across the country to victory in 2008."
Can anyone name one thing that is "uniting" about Obama's positions? He is a far leftist with no mitigation whatsoever. In liberal minds, the ceasing of political discord entails total capitulation on the part of conservatives. Barack Obama may unite the far left, but no one else.
