Huckabee leads Michigan poll, too

Add Michigan to Iowa and South Carolina on the list of states where Mick Huckabee has come from way behind to a lead in the polls, according to Rasmussen Reports. The pollster shows Huckabee in first with 21% over Romney's 20% and Giuliani's 19% - a difference within the margin of error, but first nonetheless. Read the whole report at the preceding link.

This is of importance mainly because of Michigan's early primary; they vote January 15th, behind only Iowa and New Hampshire. While many Republicans and observers, including this one, expect Huckabee's numbers to fall back once he's been in the spotlight for a few weeks (and he certainly hasn't done anything to dispel that notion in the last ten days), time is short. A candidate who can score well in two of the first three contests will gain even more free advertising in the form of media attention.

Huckabee's lack of funding ... (Below threshold)
Alan Orfi:

Huckabee's lack of funding has limited his ability to respond to the numerous attacks he's attracted since assuming front-runner status. Internal poll numbers are not showing that past problems such as Dumond or his AIDS comments are eroding support. However, his unawareness of the NIE report last week represented a huge step backward (he lost 7 net points to Giuliani according to Rasmussen) as it underscored his lack of expertise in foreign policy matters. Huckabee will have to clean that up immediately or will be trampled by Giuliani and McCain on the issue of foreign policy experience.
