eHarmony for Presidential candidates

Would you like to be matched with a Presidential candidate based on compatibility? Select a Candidate uses a short questionnaire (eleven items) on the issues, and you are asked to rate the issue's importance to you on a scale of 1 to 4. Then, through the miracle of modern science, the program compares your priorities with the stated positions of the candidates in both parties.

I'm still uncommitted but leaning towards Giuliani (as I've stated several times), but mainly because I think he stands the best chance of winning next November. Anything that changed that evaluation could readily move me to another candidate. Given that, I thought it would be a good idea to take the test.

The results: John McCain matched up most closely with a score of 38. He and I only disagree directly on immigration, line item veto (as did every other Republican, since I oppose it), and a marriage amendment (which I support but don't give high priority). But he was followed closely by Fred and Duncan Hunter (!?) at 36, and Rudy and Huckabee also scored over thirty. No Republican scored lower than 23 (Mitt), and no Democrat made double digits (although the top scorer, with 8, was . . . Kucinich! - I'm still laughing/crying over that).

Easy, fast, and fun - give it a try. (I had trouble getting the results tabulated with IE7, but it worked the first time with Firefox).

Thanks to reader "COgirl" of Hang Right Politics for the tip!

ReadyFirst:

Jim,

Joe Biden is my Dem for 2008. Fortunately I'm voting Republican. I was also surprised to find my best match was McCain at 45. I thought I was a Rudy guy also but only matched up at a 30. Duncan was second followed close by Fred. At least I'm proud to say my Kucinich match was dead last with a 1. How can you sleep at night with a score like that? Thanks for the link. You continue to be my favorite blogger here.

COgirl:

I've taken this a few times, but the most recent time, Duncan Hunter and Fred Thompson showed up as my #1 (tied) with 41. And who is Jim Gilmore -- he got 39? Biden was the first Dem to make it on my list at 15 (egads!), but even Obama, Edwards and Hillary showed up.

I am with you, Jim, I'm tending to lean towards Giuliani based on his electability. But he was middle of the road with my results.

Had this quiz asked questions about homeland security maybe the results would have been different.

ReadyFirst ~ The Kucinich score will haunt my dreams, all right. At least he's the only candidate ever to introduce a bill prohibiting the deployment of "space-based mind-control weapons," so I can take some comfort in that . . . ;-) . . . thanks for the kind words, btw.

COgirl ~ Gilmore also showed up on my "top tier" with 31 - I didn't mention it because he is already out of the race. A few more issues questioned might indeed have helped, but it's still a very interesting exercise. Thanks again for the tip!

Kucinich didn't even register in mine. Thank goodness. Funny that the only thing I agreed on with Hillary, Obama and Edwards was the death penalty. Not one other agreement with any of them.

Rudy and Mitt were down to numbers 6 and 7 on my list and McCain and Thompson were at the top. I would vote for McCain if I had to, but only as a lesser evil. I will never, ever, forgive him for McCain/Feingold.

So far the only candidate that made any sense to me recently announced but has gotten very little press coverage. Considering the other choices I think he would be perfect.

Interesting my choices for first and last are accurate. But I dislike polls because of the wording of the questions. I did like this because of the "How important is this to you" rating.

Heh, I played around with the importance ratings a bit, but I ended up mostly with Mitt and Rudy.

P. Bunyan:

Oddly, McCain rated #1 for me and the guy I like best, Huckabee, was 9th--Even lower than Paul. The only Republican who scored lower than Huckabee was Romney.

Still every Republican did better than the best Democrat (Biden) and Kucinich was last of all...

Not that I would place a lot of trust in that website.

Duncan Hunter with 54, and Thompson with 51.

I hadn't heard of anyone scoring that high on anyone yet... thats strange...

Biden tops for the D's with 16, All other dems an 8, except for kucinich and dodd with a 3.

Rudy barely beat out Paul with my lowest R, 34 and 26 respectively.

April:

I thought before I took this quiz I was voting for the First Female President. I was shocked to find her more than half way down my list. Mitt Romney is my man apparently,(score was 52) I usually try to avoid the religious sect and despise right wing politics but it looks as though he (romney) isn't so right wing. IF this test is truly accurate on view points, and I know it only hits the biggies, I think everyone should take this test, that way you know you're voting for the person who truly shares your views on things.
