Former Clinton Administration Secretary of Transportation and Secretary of Energy Federico Pena is joining the Barack Obama Presidential campaign, reports Nedra Pickler for the Associated Press:
Pena said he has many friends in the primary race and the easy thing would have been to stay out of it. But he said he is too concerned about the direction of the country and decided Obama has the best skills to unify the nation and "the ability to look at both domestic and world problems from a very creative perspective unencumbered by any past political ideology."
Read the rest at the link above. The power of political endorsements has always been overrated, but the fact Obama is able to attract a former Cabinet officer from the Clinton years shows his campaign is still alive and well, despite Hillary Clinton's persistent lead.
Pena says one of his main roles will be extending Obama's appeal to Hispanics, a significant constituency in early voting states like Nevada and Florida.
