Paul supporters aren't Republicans

Many observers have noted the extraordinary performance of Rep. Ron Paul in online surveys of Republican candidates. His results in the online surveys, easily swayed if a dedicated corps determines to promote their man, far outstrip his results in any scientific opinion poll or his appeal as the LP candidate in 1988. It is obvious that Paul has a good number of supporters without jobs or other gainful occupations who can spend hours casting votes for him, probably mostly college students.

That these supporters are "Libertarians" first and foremost who have no intention of supporting the eventual Republican nominee is proven by analysis of the polls which ask how many alternative candidates would be acceptable if the voter's first choice is eliminated. The other candidates' supporters choose several acceptable alternatives - which vary, of course - but Paul backers find NONE of the other GOP entrants acceptable. William Beutler of Blog P.I. has the details:

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Ron Paul supporters like nobody less than Giuliani -- for whom most observers called that debate based on his response to Paul's "blowback" comments, even as the Ronbots contended that the very same exchange proved Ron Paul the obvious winner.

Unlike supporters of the realistic (and popular, arguably faddish and maybe unrealistic) candidates, Ron Paul supporters apparently would not vote for any other GOP candidate in the Republican primary -- though intriguingly, a minority would consider Tancredo.

I submit this as fair evidence that Ron Paul's online base of support is not drawn from actual Republican party primary voters. Activists for every other candidate have their fallbacks, nemeses and frenemies, but no other group is so far outside the mainstream as the activists for Ron Paul

The left has come to the realization that if they can't defeat the right, they must infiltrate the right with candidates that try to masquerade as conservatives, even though they have a liberal agenda. Liberals are counterfeiters, and will were any mask they can if that is what it takes to defeat their enemy.

There was a time when the Republican agenda was closely aligned with what Paul supports today. Ron Paul is by no means a liberal, so maybe conservatives who think he is need to examine themselves and see if they are the one who have moved over the years since the NeoCons took over the Republican party.

Brad Paulsen:

Read the consititution, remember what that is? Read the 911 Commission Report, Read the Republican Platform was a few years back. The great majority of Americans do not support invading soveriegn countries that pose no threat, and now instituting torture. We used to lead by example and the world followed, now the world looks down on us as bully's. War mongering used to be a negative. Ron Paul speaks the truth and by god it good to finally hear a politician speak the truth.

Actually, 90% of Americans supported overthrowing Saddam Hussein, which is why the AUMF won so many Democratic votes.

Paul is a moron, and so is anyone who would support his idiotic isolationism. Taft, whom he regularly claims, never supported such a screwball form as Paul does, so that makes Paul a liar, as well.

If this stupid policy had been in place after WWII, we would be living in Soviet America today. Fortunately, there are very few fringe morons who actually support this nut case, although they make up for the paucity of their numbers with the volume of their braying.

Ron Paul is the thinking man's candidate. Only big government crypto-communists (neocons)and insentient Bushbots intent on dragging the Republican Party down to their own level to save themselves from embarrassment (by sreading the "blame" party-wide), are afraid of Ron Paul's traditionalist message.

He wants to abolish the IRS, NEA, and seal the borders. And he'll do it. What's not to like?

Basically, his honesty and principled stand scare the bejeezus out of the politico-media elites. His "blowback" meme stuck, and is being expanded on in ever more inconvenient questions directed at Giuliani (today on the campaign trail a reporter asked: "how did you know the buildings were coming down?")

Giuliani had to answer by evading the question. Why? Because, everyone knows that Paul has the awful truth on his side. And best of all: Giuliani can't be seen as directly calling Paul a liar, because that dog won't hunt. Both sides of the aisle have high regard for Paul's integrity. So he can't be spun by the spinners (ask Giuliani!).

Ergo, the "not a REAL Republican" meme, and the attempts by the puppet Republicans to get him banned from debates.

Every time I refer to Paul backers as morons, one shows up to prove it - as if on cue. Honest, I don't set these up, they are real idiots who are perfectly serious about the stupid things they say, as far as I can determine.

As far as Paul's supposed "principles" go, he has been a lifelong supporter of OPEN BORDERS, which was also a founding tenet of the Libertarian Party. How, when, and IF he and they did a complete 180° turnabout on the immigration question is a matter for research, but it certainly shows that their "principles" are anything but abiding.

I promise to continue posting to attract these freaks so we can ridicule them, at least until Paul is dumped from the debates for his laughable failure to attract the support of anyone who isn't a complete buffoon.

Jim, it's nice of you to come clean about how much open and earnest political discussion you support. I used to look forward to reading your submissions to Wizbang, but you seem to have sunk down to the level of discourse that we badger the Wizbang blue crowd about. Your last statement really, really makes one question your objectivity and proffesionalism.

I am a former Republican. I have disassociated myself from the party because it no longer represents conservative values. The republican leadership has sold out the nation in order to push forward their own agenda which seems to vary from week to week. It appears that the republican party has convinced the right leaning media that the presidency can only be won by a candidate with no morals, no respect for justice, life or liberty and thinks the constitution is an old sailing ship.

I believe Ron Paul is disliked so by mainstream republicans because he keeps speaking the truth and doesn't change his story with every new poll or challenge. He believes the guiding document for all legislation is the U.S. Constitution. There is also the Perot factor involved with Ron Paul running and having a steady undercurrent of popularity. The right is terrified that he will appeal to voters that no longer have a home with the republican party. He could attract enough of those "Swing" votes to cause a serious problem to the republican front runner. Those swing voters traditionally are libertarians, independents and disaffected voters from both parties.

Matt ~ if you seriously support Ron Paul, you not only aren't a Republican, you probably never were.

Libertarians are like a cult, though. Just like the Moonies or Scientologists, they will entice you with the reasonable-sounding aspects of their program - limited government, lower taxes, etc. - and keep from you the radical rest of the story until you are fully sucked in.

They aren't just against the Iraq War. They're against ANY foreign deployments and basing of US troops EXCEPT in war, and "non-interventionist" diplomatic policies as well. Such nonsense, if implemented after WWII, would have swiftly delivered the world - including the USA - to Soviet domination. It's insane.

They aren't just against criminal penalties for recreational drugs; they are for NO laws on ANY drugs. You shouldn't need a prescription for anything, the Libertarians believe - just diagnose and treat yourself. No licensing of doctors or lawyers, either . . . more stuff they don't put on the first page.

There is LOTS more you don't know about the LPers. Many believe they are "small-'l'" "libertarians" because of the soft positions I mentioned earlier. I'll do a post on the subject soon.

Or, perhaps you do know all about the Libertarian positions, and support them anyway, in which case you are simply a moron.
