New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson made it official today: he's running for the Democratic nomination for Vice President President. Nedra Pickler of the Associated Press has the story:
"The challenges we face are not acts of God or accidents of fate," Richardson said, according to text of his announcement speech distributed by the campaign.
"They were man-made and deliberate," Richardson said. "Whether it was willful ignorance or an ignorant will, we are left with the ravages of an administration that will take years to rectify."
Read the full report at the link above. After a political lifetime as a centrist, Richardson has moved far left for the campaign in an attempt to appeal to the new activist base of the party.
I wonder if it was an "accident of fate" which enabled the Chinese to steal secrets from our labs under Richardson's Department of Energy? Or which led him, as UN Ambassador, to personally grant an interview to a low-level job seeker (Monica Lewinsky) at the behest of the White House? Or which makes him constantly break the speed limits for his official motorcade? Or which made him falsely and repeatedly claim he had been drafted as a baseball pitcher out of college by the then-Kansas City Athletics?
Ah, the Fickle Finger of Fate . . .
On paper, Richardson has the most impressive resume of anyone in the race. Watching him try to muster his talents to master the art of political bluster is painful, but it shows there are few depths to which a man will not plunge in service to his ambitions.
