Yup. The GOP seat... (Below threshold)1. Posted by kewgardens | May 9, 2007 10:59 PM | Score: 1 (1 votes cast)
Yup.
The GOP seats in order of vulnerability:
Colorado (Udall v. Shaeffer)-- Slight Lean Dems
New Hampshire (Sununu v. ??)-- Pure Tossup
Minnesota (Coleman v. ??)-- Tossup
Oregon (Smith v. ??) -- Slight Lean GOP
New Mexico (Dominici v. ??) -- Lean GOP
Maine (Collins v. Allen)-- Lean GOP
North Carolina (Dole v. ??)-- Lean GOP
The only two real chances for GOP pickups are South Dakota (if Johnson does not run) and Louisiana. Right now, the Dems have the edge in both contests.
So at this point, I think the most likely outcome is a +2 gain for the Dems

We should have already had candidates recruited for the open seats and to challenge the vulnerable incumbents. The RSCC has been incompetent for the last several cycles - including 2004, when we picked up a few seats under George Allen's chairmanship, but we had no strong opponents lined up to oppose the likes of Reid and Baucus.
It's not fair to blame the RSCC alone, though. Part of the problem is that Democrats have successfully used their vicious attacks on enough good people in government to dissuade others from leaving much higher-paying jobs in the private sector to enter the fray.
