Lorie, couldn't you type "Ron Paul" instead of "libertarian-leaning Republican"? I guessed correctly who the subject would be, but I don't like putting out for neocon bloggers. Muravchuk and Delay on the homepage. Both scum. One country club, one SDS! Ron Paul KICKS ASS, though! PAUL-TANCREDO'08

Ron Paul ran for President as the Libertine Party candidate in 1988, and received less than 450,000 votes out of over 90 million cast. Any "impact" his candidacy might have is mainly in the imagination of the fringe LP types.
Republicans have typically been quicker than Democrats to "weed the field" for their primary debates. Paul might be invited to the first couple fora this year, but would likely not be included in later events without some sign of support in the polls, which he won't get.
Libertarians can only aspire to beat the "margin of error" in the polls.
