Paul could probably speak to this point with more authority, but the large number of displaced Louisianians from Katrina who have not returned to their home state are overwhelmingly black. If they voted according to the average profile of Louisiana black voters, that represents a large loss of Democratic votes from a state where statewide elections have often been extremely close in recent years.
Louisiana is one state where Republicans should be in strong shape for 2008. A great candidate like Jindal at the top of the ticket can only boost our chances in the state.

Mr. Addison makes a good point but the Dems also used Rep. Jindal's skin colour against him in the last race against Blanco. Unfortunately there are still people here that are influenced by the ridiculous remarks that were made.
When we observed Blanco's total meltdown during Katrina, the choice seemed clear. Get rid of her.
I only wish we had a candidate as qualified as Jindal to run against Mary Landrieu.
