Well, there goes any chance... (Below threshold)1. Posted by kewgardens | January 13, 2007 1:34 AM | Score: 0 (0 votes cast)
Well, there goes any chance of retaking KY-3 in 2008. Given the demographics of the district, Northup -- with her high name recognition and strong political skills -- was the only GOPer with a real chance of winning this blue district.
Of perhaps even greater concern, this move likely takes Northup out the 2010 Senate race. Bunning will almost certainly retire in three years, leaving an open seat. Northup would have been a perfect candidate for that race given the strong Democratic bench. Now the GOP may be without a strong candidate.

Kew, KY-3 is purple, not blue. John Kerry won by 51-49. If the Republicans are going to give up on every blue district, they're never going to see the majority again.
John Yarmuth will be a first term incumbent that came in on the back of a wave. He'll be vulnerable. And if he wins, the seat will be competitive in the next red wave, or when it comes open.
