Lorie,
Jay Cost has an article in realclearpolitics and was posted yesterday. He does an in-depth analysis and concludes that the Republicans have a better than 50-50 shot at keeping the House.
I trust Jay's opinion more than anyone else about the election. He is a TRUE expert versus many of the others.

I will not hide in a corner and whine if the democrats win because it will give us years of comic relief. I will laugh and point it out everytime the democrats stick it to the idiots that put them in office. They have promised to kill the tax cuts. That will hit every worker in the pocket, including democrats (unless all of them are truly welfare riders) so that will be poetic justice.
I see Hellary is wearing a cross almost all of the time. Does that mean she will not be allowed to visit the schools ran by the communist inspired NEA union? They won't allow students to wear crosses, will they allow visitors? Maybe they'll just be hypocrites like the rest of the democ'rat party. See the comedy openings have already began.

Raising taxes alone is bad, but not even a tenth as bad as what they then spend that money on -- bridges to nowhere, obscene "art", welfare queens, etc.
Hillary can appropriately wear a cross for only one reason I can think of -- she's got to be a saint to be married to Willie. Of course, Willie has one reason to be able to wear a cross as well.

You want to know why Rove is not ready to jump off the bridge?
Here's the bottom line: It's all about turn out. In the really competitive Republican districts, which is what we're all watching, the races are roughly 2%, well within the MOE. And these are districts which have a majority of Republican voters. AND - in most of these races the Dem challenger hasn't been able to touch 50%. Do you think that a significant number of R's are going to vote for the Democrats because they are mad or disappointed at Republicans? That's outside the realm of probability. The only thing that can hurt us is depressed turn out.
So it boils down to getting our Republicans out. The GOTV effort (which even the Dems acknowledge is far superior to theirs)is underway - last week alone Republican volunteers contacted over 1 million people. In one week. The Democrats have contacted the same amount of people THIS YEAR!
And then you have to figure the massive advantage we have in money which is being used strategically. See: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/16/AR2006101601120_pf.html While the MSM is more than happy to make stories out of poll numbers, scandal, etc., we have been unable to get our message out for the last couple weeks. That is changing as our ads are going up.
Let's face it, as much as the Dems want to say that mood will trump money, money (through ads and other ground game efforts) help shape the mood. And the fact is the Democrats shot most of their loot over the summer, so now they face a 2-1 cash disadvantage going into the homestretch.
The Democrats say they were prepared for a Republican financial advantage - but they simply are not ready for what's about to hit them.

Hawkins has Hostettler in Indiana as the #2 most likely Dem pickup. True, the polls have favored Ellsworth, who is a strong candidate. Hostettler, though, has the most sophisicated grass-roots organization of any member of Congress. His volunteers are organized in each of the eighteen counties the district includes. These are dedicated people.
That's why he doesn't raise much money or buy many ads, and never has. On November 7th, the Hostettler voters will be there.
Conservatives who spend too much time wringing their hands over polls should find another hobby.

Amen, brother.
I don't beleive the Democrats actually have the momentum. It only SEEMS like it because you have the MSM conducting polls to get the results they want and now you have some skiddish conservatives in the media who are falling for it.
There are going to be some VERY SHOCKED people come lection night.
