"Oops, I did it again!"
In the midst of Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid's problems explaining his $1 million+ profit on an undisclosed land deal, it turns out he paid bonuses for his personal support staff at his Washington residence with campaign contributions. That ain't legal, for those of you in Hope, Arkansas.
John Solomon of the Associated Press reports:
Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid has been using campaign donations instead of his personal money to pay Christmas bonuses for the support staff at the Ritz-Carlton where he lives in an upscale condominium. Federal election law bars candidates from converting political donations for personal use.
Questioned about the campaign expenditures by The Associated Press, Reid's office said Monday he was personally reimbursing his campaign for $3,300 in donations he had directed to the staff holiday fund at his residence.

Personally, I blame George Allen. He was Chairman of the RSCC in the last cycle and, even though Reid had barely won reelection in 1998 in a Democratic year, failed to recruit a strong candidate to oppose him.
Reid has had the stench of corruption about him since before he ever darkened the door of the Senate chamber. In any rational society, the likes of him would have been hounded from office long ago.
