This isn't really news to anyone who knows Louisiana politics...
Gov. Kathleen Blanco edged Bobby Jindal (now in the House) after a late surge pushed her over the top.
With her poor performance even BEFORE Katrina, she wasn't going to make it to the runoff stage. The fallout of Katrina just makes it more certain that she'll be ousted by a Republican than a Democrat.
Sen. Mary Landrieu's two elections have been very tight, with the 1996 one being contested by opponent Woody Jenkins and the 2002 one having a well-financed opponent.
With her family's traditional bloc of support in New Orleans decimated, she either has to head right to minimize a Republican advantage (which will piss off the Kos crew and possibly hurt her fundraising) or hope the Republicans put up an unelectable candidate.
