The race to replace incumbent Republican Rep. Jim Nussle, who is running for Governor, is one of those tightly competitive "tossup" contests which both parties and political observers across the nation are closely watching. Republican Mike Whalen is spotlighting Democratic opponent Bruc Braley's antiwar views in his latest TV ad, according to Ed Tibbetts of the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier:
Braley has called for a prompt withdrawal from the conflict, while Whalen has said to do so would amount to a "cut and run" policy.
In the new ad, a narrator says Braley would "stop money needed for guns, body armor, everything our troops need to defend themselves."The ad centers on a comment Braley made this spring on Iowa Public Television in which he told a questioner if it got the troops home from Iraq, he would support cutting off funding for the war effort.
