Someone needs to identify one Democrat running for national office that has a plan or program to help the American people.
Everyone Democrat I see is running on slime, slander and a cowardly cut and run stategy. All are providing aide and comfort to the enemy in hopes of getting a vote or two from the mentally retarded.
If the democrats win it will be a fun four years watching them raise taxes by 20% of more on the working people, put another dollar or more tax on gasoline, and watching thousands of people die in the streets of America due their buddying up with the Socialist, Communist, Terrorists, Dicatators and the rest of the slime of the world.
They not only don't have a program or plan to help America, they don't even have a clue that they should have a plan or program.

The problem is the republicans allowed the neocons to hijack the party. The neocons have failed in every policy change they tired and many Republicans are not happy about that.
The Republican Party is a social liberal ideology and a fiscal conservative methodology.
The neocons are the mirror opposite of that, using wedge issues to avoid serious national interests, and finger point to avoid accountability. It has not worked for the neocons.
This nation has made many variations of both parties, and the nation will go on long after the neocons are gone, just like the southern democrats are gone.
What will likely happen is that there may be a moderate party started which takes control, and lets the GOP become the militant far religious right and the Democrats become the socialistic extreme liberals- of which neither will ever rule again.

Joe, the problem with your scenario is it jumps from a "moderate" party being formed to it "taking control," which is a pretty big leap.
Your disdain for "neocons" is clear, but I have to wonder how you define the word, and why so. It originally referred to former liberals who converted to conservatism after the '70s. Now it seems to apply to any conservative the left doesn't like, which means pretty much all of us.
