2006 Minnesota Governor Race

A new Mason-Dixon poll shows that Minnesota Gubernatorial race within the margin of error. I am at a loss of what to make of this race, as polls have been all over the place. Some have shown it to be tied, while others show it to be double digits Pawlenty lead.

It also makes the Senate race very unpredictable.

Let me unscramble it. Gov. ... (Below threshold)

Let me unscramble it. Gov. Pawlenty has high JA ratings, in the mid 50's. He's hitting Hatch hard on Hatch's gazillions of flipflops. I'd discard that poll, frankly.

Also, let me clear the Klobuchar-Kennedy race for you: Klobuchar got buried in Tuesday night's public TV debate. To make matters worse, her campaign is now buried in a massive scandal that isn't going away anytime soon. She fired Tara McGuinness, her campaign spokeswoman, for watching an unreleased Kennedy campaign video, along with at least several other staffers. Thus far, Ms. McGuinness is the only person fired for this.

Meanwhile, the FBI is now investigating what all happened. As I said here,

Somehow, I think that they’ll remember this more for how it destroyed the Klobuchar candidacy. She’d already lost momentum by losing Tuesday’s debate. Ms. Klobuchar and her staff are facing tough questioning from the FBI. I suspect that that’ll be an intimidating experience for them.

Get out the butter because Klobuchar's toast. They'll still be talking about this in early October. Klobuchar will have to replace a significant part of her staff or be criticized for coddling criminals.

I think the big problem for... (Below threshold)

I think the big problem for Klobuchar is that she delayed reporting the incident to the FBI for several days - until AFTER the debate.

She must account for the delay, or the suspicion that the delay was to avoid having the issue come up in the debate will poison her candidacy. As so often in politics, it isn't the "crime" which dooms a candidate; it is the cover-up.

The question now is: "What did Klobuchar know, and when did she know it?"

Not the sort of question a campaign wants being asked, is it?

If TimPaw makes it over the... (Below threshold)
Dave:

If TimPaw makes it over the finish line, he should definitely be on the veep shortlist for 2008.
