New Jersey deserves better than Bob Menendez and the party that he represents.

I can see this coming and its not going to be pretty. At this point, I would rate this a higher likelihood than Menendez winning straight up.
If the democrats want to run someone else, why don't they just nominate someone else in the first place.

If the Herb Jackson who authored the linked column is the same one with whose reputation I am familiar - and I have no reason to believe he isn't - he is a top pro with well-developed sources in DC, especially among pols from the tri-state area.
His sources are saying it won't happen, essentially because of money and the strength of Kean as a candidate. Read the article for details.
It seems unlikely under the circumstances. Of course, there will be intense media pressure, and if there are leaks from the investigation which do further damage, the situation may change.
One thing is undeniable, however: Kean's chances are much better now than they were a couple of weeks ago. I thought his response to the breaking scandal was great: "It's disturbing . . . very serious charges . . . no further comment."
When your opponent in a campaign is in a rapid tailspin of his own making, the wisest strategy is to SHUT UP.
If this keeps up - and it probably will, unless the US Attorney ends the investigation and gives Menendez a clean bill o' health (which US Attorneys NEVER do, btw) - the race should move to "Leans Republican."
