Rasmussen Reports has put the Tennessee contest for retiring Republican Sen. Bill Frist's seat into the "tossup" category from "Lean Republican." The race pits Democratic Rep. Harold Ford, Jr. against Republican Bob Corker. This leaves the overall Senate midterm very tight, as Rasmussen tells it:
The Tennessee Senate race is getting closer and Rasmussen Reports now classifies the Corker-Ford race as a "Toss-Up." Previously, it had been rated "Leans Republican." This reduces the number of states in the Republican or Leans Republican categories to 49. Forty-five (45) Senate seats are favored to remain in Democratic hands while 6 are now in the Toss-Up category. (see State-by-State Summary).
This is the seventh change in our Senate Balance of Power summary and all seven have pointed to a tighter race in October.Tennessee is the third state to shift from favoring one party to Toss-Up status. Earlier this week, both New Jersey and Rhode Island moved from "Leans Democrat" to "Toss-Up."

Yeah, right. If you believe this, you can make some easy money at Tradesports, because Ford futures are pretty cheap.

The GOP in TN blew it by not nominating Ed Bryant instead of Corker because while Bryant is a true conservative, Corker is only a RINO. In this poll only 44% see corker as a conservative. If Ed Bryant were the nominee he would have beaten Ford but with Corker as the nominee this race is a tossup.

I'll add again, I'm in Tennessee, and a lot of Conservatives are very angry at Corker, and he is not viewed as one of us. He ran a disgustingly disingenuous and deceitful primary campaign, and his post primary campaigning has ranged from non-existent to politically tone-deaf (all the while Ford is addressing important issues -- not that he's right on them, only that he's bringing them up). Not to say Conservatives will vote for Ford, but they're not going to vote for Corker.

I'm not in TN and am not familiar with either Corker or Bryant, so I thank our readers from the state or area for giving us their perspectives.
My general policy would be to vote for the more conservative candidate in the primary, absent any character problems or evidence he could not win the general election. In this case, from my limited knowledge, that would have been Bryant.
But even if Corker is a Chaffee-sized RINO - which I doubt seriously would allow him such support in TN - he's almost certainly better than Ford.
Why would I stay home and let a worse candidate take the seat for six years?
People complain about choosing "the lesser of two evils." What, they think "the GREATER of two evils" is the better choice?

Ford is as dangerous as Clinton, one smooth liar.

How can we call Ford a liar when President Bush told the world Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and not one person was fired because of it. The Saudis have been apart of every terrorist attack in the U.S. from the 1st Trade Towers bombing to the Cole and etc and we attack Iraq. In the meanwhile, Bush invites the Saudi Princes to his house and they ride horses and watch John Wayne movies and Bush shows the Princes what a F-350 can really do. Is Ford as big a liar as Bush. I think not.
