2006 Washington 8th District House Race

According to a new SurveyUSA poll, Dave Reichert holds a large lead over his Democratic challenger. A victory by Reichert would bode very well for the Republican Party's hopes for maintaining control of the House of Representatives.

Great news!

While CQ Politics, Cook Political Report, and Election Projection all have this seat "leaning Republican," it is also on most lists of the most competitive House races.

If Reichert can consolidate his lead, it does indeed foreshadow a more pleasant Election Night than we have been hearing from the fMSM.

Bob:

Burner has no previous political experience. She was an office-holder in a homeowner's association, spent a year in law school, and was a middle-level manager at Microsoft.

Her credentials befit an individual running for City Council. Not Congress.

Sorry, the predictions in this race can't be taken as evidence that conservatives are going to do better than feared (although I hope this is the case). Burner's in way over her head, and the local press is catching on and fast.

Bob, it sounds like you are from the area.

We really need people "on the ground" in these various races to comment and bring us the background we can never get through the fMSM filter. Thanks, and keep us posted.

No, we sure shouldn't attempt to extrapolate national results or trends from a single race, but it is worthy of note that most of the "big-time" analysts have this as competitive. Was it just because Reichert is a first-term incumbent? Was there any other reasoning behind the call at all?

It makes me wonder how many other of these so-called "competitive seats" are close only in the imagination of some self-appointed expert. Of course, it is entirely possible that they would err on either side - presuming the error is a random one.

Good information Bob. I'm a Seattle native myself, but haven't lived in Washington since 1972, so I really appreciate any info on the ground I can get. To show you how far removed I am, I can remember when Seattle had a Republican Mayor. I had heard some talk that the GOP might have a good candidate to challenge Rick Larsen. Any truth to that one? And is there any chance that Republicans could win the seat representing Bremerton if Dicks ever retires?

Of course, I hope this is correct, but it as another Summer Poll. Snigger! Snicker! Hee! Hee! Ha! Ha! ALL Summer Polls and most polls of any kind for any party make good toilet paper! They are Fun to Read of course, but NO SANE PERSON ever takes them very seriously. Hee! Hee! Snicker! Snicker!
