Republican challenger Van Taylor has launched a website attacking incumbent Democratic Rep. Chet Edwards' record. Edwards isn't taking it lying down, as Dan Genz of The Waco Tribune-Herald reports:
Iraq war veteran Van Taylor is challenging U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards' record before the November election for Waco's 17th Congressional District seat.
The GOP nominee has launched a Web site and issued a series of news releases questioning Edwards' statements and previous votes, which Taylor says informs voters of what he describes as the Democrat's "hypocrisy."Edwards called the effort a series of attacks that voters will reject as "unsubstantiated."
The releases suggest Edwards has made contradictory statements and votes on matters ranging from financial issues to border security.
"I owe it to the people of the 17th District to make this campaign as clean and honest as it can be," Taylor said on the Web site. "I intend to . . . (point) out inconsistencies in what Chet Edwards tells the voters in Central Texas, and what he actually does in Washington, D.C."
Edwards said the claims are a political tactic that voters have rejected over the last three elections.

This one looks like it could get nasty down the stretch. Election Projection changed their rating on this contest last week from "Possibly competitive" to "Weak Dem hold."
