National Politics

As I have indicated previously, the events of last week have contributed to an improvement in the political fortunes of Republicans going into the Labor Day kickoff of the Congressional races. This article from the New York Times as much as admits it. Apparently, some Republicans have now dubbed Democrats as "Defeatocrats." This is rather catchy. It merits repeating.

I'm not sure how new "Defeatocrats" is. I'm pretty sure I saw RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman quoted using the term a couple months ago.

But it is descriptive. You can sugar-coat a withdrawal by a date certain to make it sound like something else, but all it does is tell the enemy to take a vacation until the withdrawal is complete, then come back - tanned, rested, and ready - to declare victory.

I hear some whining about Republicans "taking advantage" of the situation to remind voters of the terror threat. I don't blame them at all for that, but I do blame any voter dumb enough to have forgotten it.
