Although there are reasons beyond Lieberman's strong support for the war and what critics say is his accommodating stance toward Bush that have put him in trouble, the results will be read largely through the prism of what they say about Iraq and Bush's popularity.
------------------------------
The WP left out "within a Democrat party primary in a dark blue state"
Gee - was there any doubt what the Democrats in dark blue states feel about Iraq or Bush's popularity.
Only in the 2nd to last paragraph does the WP point out the obvious that CT is hardly indicative of the national electorate.
The REAL story here is if Lieberman gets creamed tomorrow, but then stays neck and neck in the race as an Independent - given the number of independents and moderate GOP that would support him.
Rasmussen had Lamont up by ten in the primary, but then had the two tied for the general.
Since apparently the GOP only has about 5 members in CT (and they all hold office somewhere - including the governor, go figure) it is a shame we don't have a chance to profit from a split ticket.
But I hope Joe loses tomorrow and wins in November.
