Well, Dean, Reid, and Pelos... (Below threshold)1. Posted by Adjoran | June 29, 2006 1:58 AM | Score: 0 (0 votes cast)
Well, Dean, Reid, and Pelosi all said over the winter that we would have a comprehensive Democratic platform by spring. I thought summer started the other day, but I am on Daylight Savings Time so I can't be certain.
I must admit, though, they are likely to fare far better in the midterms by leaving the impression they stand for nothing than by informing the electorate of what they really do stand for.
And they are saving a fortune by doing it all themselves instead of paying Carville and Morris all that money. It fits well with their new "fiscal responsibility" memes, which depend upon misdirection like any good illusionist.

Unlike the GOP's fiscal responsibility claims, which have been entirely debunked. The GOP line on a lot of issues seems to be "the Democrats are worse," in order to draw attention away from failures.
At least the Democrats can balance a budget. How many Republican presidents have had balanced budgets in the last 50 years?
People who care about pork spending, unrestrained growth of government and holding down spending will only trust the GOP for so long; they better make good on those principles sometime soon or we could see a viable third party or a Dem government.

Majorities of Americans support:
-health care reform to help the middle class
-environmental protections that work
-keeping abortion safe and legal
-open government and clean elections
-reducing the impact of lobbyists on gov't
-ending the conflict in Iraq
-inspecting cargo that enters the country
-meaningful and fair immigration reform
-maintaining the solvency of Medicare and SS
-reducing tax giveaways to oil, pharm and credit card companies that already have enormous profits
-reducing pork spending
-finding a real financial plan to pay for gov't
-strong foreign policy grounded in reality
When Democrats tell people what they stand for, they win elections. When they equivocate and triangulate, they lose. The GOP, on the other hand, uses platitudes and rhetoric combined with hot-button social issues (especially ones that are not likely to change, like abortion rights, gun rights, and the division of state and religion) to lure voters.
On the left you have the honest vendor giving you the facts and a fair price, and on the right you have the slick salesman using bells and whistles to hide the fact that he is selling you junk.
