It's pretty much a mess. Pataki has rendered the state GOP a lame duck by waiting so long to declare his intentions and then by supporting Weld. Ed Cox graciously pulled out of the senate race against Clinton after Pataki and Minarik (state GOP leader) threw their collective weight behind disaster candidate Jeanine Pirro, who has since decided to run for AG.
Faso is a great candidate for conservative Republicans, unfortunately for him this is NY. I also really like Tom Suozzi who is trying to force a Democrat primary. He is a tough talking reformer with a solid grasp of the state's fiscal woes. The GOP actually tried to woo him to the dark side.
Spitzer is pretty transparent. As AG, he never took on Medicaid fraud, a real problem here in NY, instead going after high-profile Wall Street types in an effort to win over the little guy. His long range view of his career doesn't stop in NY and I would suggest that people keep an eye on this guy nationally. I'm going to bet he throws his hat into the ring in 2012 if a Democrat isn't already sitting in the WH.

Weld dropped out today. Not that it matters much. Spitzer's victory seems assured, barring some catastrophic scandal which doesn't seem likely.
