That explains it. He's past his shelf life and now think's defending bribe taking democrats on flimsy constitutional grounds is more important than actual serving his constituency or the GOP base. Time for Hastert to quit. He was never really a "leader;" he was the compromise candidate who offended the fewest people after Gingrich screwed the pooch.
The trouble with Washington is due in no little part to the congressional tradition of seniority, whereby insignificant men gain power and influence, which, they then mistakenly conclude, makes them significant, even important.
