On the GOP side, I think McCain will end up being the candidate with the most "buzz" for the least votes. I've never seen any real support for him among the Republican base; his victories in 2000 tended to be in states that allowed crossover voting, where he drew strongly from independent and Democratic voters {NH & MI}.
If Guiliani were to run, I would be inclined to support him despite disagreement on several social issues. He has the national stature and proven adminstrative and leadership ability.
On the Democratic side, Evan Bayh might be the best qualified candidate they have, after Bill Richardson. They both have the same problem: they start talking and the listener just . . . zzzzzzzzzz . . .
