So if one Northeastern liberal lost in 2004, and if it looks like another Northeastern liberal will lose in 2008, the best thing to do is to nominate a different Northeastern liberal. Only in the Democratic Party.

Gee if memory serves that is a leading indicator of an addled mind is it not. Hugh Hewitt had a piece yesterday that stated it is pretty bad you have to do a warm up piece to introduce the new act. Especially since this guy has been in the senate longer than dirt. Dragging out a wallflower for a contender ain't gonnna help.

My senator, Chris Dodd, is dumb beyond belief (a seeming nice guy though). Even in the Democratic party he shouldn't have a chance.

Ah, but David, doesn't being "dumb beyond belief" give one a certain advantage in the Democratic Party?
I mean, it would make it easier to mouth the party platitudes and keep a straight face, no?
A bit of history: The last Democrat elected President who was not a Southerner was JFK in 1960. The last Democrat elected without a Southerner on the ticket was Truman in 1948 - and that ticket was two border-state guys.
If the Democrats want a chance, they should look to Mark Warner of Virginia. It is difficult to see him getting through the primaries, though, unless the powerful moonbat caucus splits amongst the far-left candidates.
