This and That

From CQ Politics:

  • Murkowski to seek reelection : "With the completion of an agreement between Alaska and three major oil companies to build a $21 billion natural gas pipeline through the state behind him, Gov. Frank Murkowski on Friday said he would seek a second term."
  • ME Governor Baldacci rebounds. "A recent poll showing that Maine Democratic Gov. John Baldacci has rebounded from a job approval slump is not deterring the three leading Republican would-be challengers, who have stepped up their campaigns for a June 13 primary that currently appears to have no clear favorite."

From The Hill:

  • Rhode Island Senate race: " Democratic Senate candidate Sheldon Whitehouse launched his first TV spots late last week, promoting his record as a former U.S. attorney rather than challenging the record of his Republican opponent, incumbent Sen. Lincoln Chafee...Whitehouse has not shied away from hammering Chafee as too close to President Bush, and the centrist may have given his Democratic foe new ammunition by appearing with first lady Laura Bush at a fundraiser Friday...Chafee donors paid $500 for tickets to the first-lady fundraiser and $2,500 for a separate private reception. According to a Rasmussen Reports poll of likely Rhode Island voters released April 26, Whitehouse trails the senator by three percentage points, within the poll's margin of error."

Update 5/30: There are many more interesting tidbits to be found from races across the country in the May 30 edition of Battleground Dispatches at CQ Politics.

The thing about Lincoln Cha... (Below threshold)

The thing about Lincoln Chaffee is that if he loses, the ONLY thing we will have lost is the organizational vote. On almost everything else, he votes with the left.

People who dislike moderate Republicans often label Senators Specter, Snowe, and Collins as "RINOs," but Chaffee is the real thing. There is NOTHING Republican about him EXCEPT the name. He even admits to having voted for Kerry.

So long, Link! Don't let the screen door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya, mmmkay?

If Chaffee loses, Good Ridd... (Below threshold)
Charles:

If Chaffee loses, Good Riddance! Forget the organizational B.S.
